The HUB Cultural Center fosters connection and meaningful conversation between students, staff, and faculty to build community within and between cultures, and across different worldviews. Job Description:

  • Under the guidance of the Manager, DEI Programs and Initiatives, and the Senior HUB Program Coordinator, the HUB Social Justice Leader provides administrative support and aids in coordinating activities and programs at the HUB Cultural Center. Responsibilities include office clerical tasks, addressing student needs, assisting in program planning and assessment, monitoring emails, organizing Google Drive, conducting basic research, and assisting with data entry. The Social Justice Leader assists students, staff, and faculty with HUB Cultural Center programs and resources, both in person and via Zoom.

Duties:

  • Provide support as an assistant to the professional staff at the HUB Cultural Center.
  • Ensure that equity mindfulness and social justice values remain at the core of work and program planning.
  • Maintain updated and accurate records for project-related programs and services.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as managing the HUB’s email, creating and revising flyers, managing social media platforms, updating the department's website, completing forms, and labels; filing, faxing, copy, scanning and collate materials.
  • Assist with program development and special projects. (training provided)
  • Assist with daily upkeep of the HUB Cultural Center.
  • Co-create and co-facilitate presentations to educate the SSU community about Social Justice related topics.
  • Develop the ability to communicate difficult and sensitive information tactfully and diplomatically. (training will be provided)
  • Provide general office support: receive visitors, schedule appointments, answer incoming inquiries, and make referrals to other departments, programs, services, and off-campus resources. (as appropriate)
  • Committed to upholding an open communication protocol with the HUB Cultural Center professional staff and student staff.
  • Highlight the Office of DEI and the HUB Cultural Center positively to both the internal SSU community and external partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Qualifications:

  • Cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Must have a strong passion and knowledge for issues of social justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Must have experience/sensitivity working with students of diverse ethnic and/or low-income backgrounds and be able to relate to students and their needs.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to examine one’s own biases, assumptions, and attitudes.
  • Ability to work well with faculty, staff, and off-campus partners.
  • Highly mature, self-motivated, dependable, able to adapt to change, quick learner, ability to work in a team environment and at times, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate challenging situations. Good writing skills.
  • Ability to greet students and visitors courteously and professionally.
  • Must possess knowledge of campus programs and services and have a strong desire to serve students.
  • Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Drupal, Canva, and other software skills are highly desirable.

Period of Employment:

  • Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time with two weeks' notice or the HUB Cultural Center may immediately discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
