The HUB Center is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and an integral part of the Office of Institutional Equity and Belonging.


Classification

Position Title: Student Assistant I
Hourly Rate: $17.25
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.)

Job Description

Under the guidance and supervision of the HUB Leadership Team, the HUB Social Justice Leader provides administrative and programmatic support to the HUB Center. This position assists in coordinating activities, supporting student engagement, and maintaining day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities include clerical and organizational tasks, addressing student needs, supporting program planning and assessment, managing communications, organizing digital files, and assisting with data entry. The Social Justice Leader supports students, staff, and faculty with HUB Center programs and resources both in person and via Zoom.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the HUB professional staff.

  • Ensure that equity mindfulness and social justice values guide all work and program planning.

  • Maintain accurate and updated records for HUB programs and services.

  • Assist with administrative tasks, including managing the HUB email account, creating and revising flyers, managing social media content, updating the department website, completing forms, filing, copying, scanning, and collating materials.

  • Assist with program development, planning, and special projects (training provided).

  • Support the daily upkeep and welcoming environment of the HUB Center.

  • Co-create and co-facilitate presentations that educate the SSU community about social justice-related topics.

  • Develop the ability to communicate sensitive information tactfully and diplomatically (training provided).

  • Provide general office support: greet visitors, schedule appointments, respond to inquiries, and make referrals to appropriate campus and community resources.

  • Maintain open and consistent communication with the HUB professional and student staff teams.

  • Positively represent and promote the HUB Center to the campus community and external partners.

  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Office of Institutional Equity and Belonging.


Qualifications
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

  • Strong passion and understanding of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Experience and sensitivity working with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Willingness to engage in self-reflection and examine personal biases, assumptions, and attitudes.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and community partners.

  • Demonstrated maturity, dependability, adaptability, and self-motivation.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to greet students and visitors courteously and professionally.

  • Knowledge of campus programs, resources, and student support services.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Drupal, and Canva is highly desirable.


Period of Employment

Employment with the HUB Center is at will, meaning the employee may resign at any time with two weeks’ notice, or the HUB Center may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause.
