Honoring the Past, Uniting the Present and Building the Future
Honoring
The HUB believes that all people should be treated with dignity and respect. Differences in race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, nationality, and other intersecting identities should never prevent anyone from living a healthy and meaningful life.
We honor and value the diversity of people, worldviews, and ideas. It is essential that we learn how to engage and work with those whose cultural and political perspectives differ from our own.
Uniting
The HUB is a space where all are invited to explore what it means to be part of an authentic community. We welcome every person as a whole individual, inviting all aspects of self to be shared: identities, perspectives, bodies, emotions, questions, concerns, lineages, strengths, and shadows.
As a radically inclusive center and community, we strive to connect, engage, and learn with every visitor. When individuals and communities come together in authentic ways, they generate energy, vitality, and a greater capacity to heal, evolve, and act.
Building
The HUB encourages students to help build a future that is more just, compassionate, and loving. Thoughtful social change is both an ethical and spiritual necessity.
We recognize that our world is affected by inequality, systems of discrimination, and environmental degradation. Through self-reflection and community action, we work to create positive change.
We envision a world where all people have equitable access to common resources: healthy food, clean water and environments, safe housing and community, viable livelihoods, inspirational art, appropriate technologies and medicine, and relevant education.
The HUB promotes cultural expression and creativity because they are essential to well-being, social movements, and innovation.
Mission and Values
Mission
At The HUB, we foster connection and meaningful conversation among students, staff, and faculty to build community within and between cultures and across different worldviews.
Values
The Whole Person
We invite everyone to bring all aspects of themselves to The HUB: identities, perspectives, bodies, emotions, questions, concerns, lineages, strengths, and shadows. As a radically inclusive center and community, we strive to connect, engage, and learn with all who enter our space.
Authenticity
When the parts of ourselves and our communities come together authentically, we create energy and vitality. This vitality expands our ability to heal, evolve, and act.
Thoughtful Social Change
We encourage students to help build a future that is more just, compassionate, and loving. Thoughtful social change is both an ethical and spiritual necessity. We enact change within ourselves and our communities to help transform systems of inequality and oppression.
Equitable Access
We envision a world where all people have equitable access to common resources: healthy food, clean water and environments, safe housing and community, viable livelihoods, inspirational art, appropriate technologies and medicine, and relevant education.
Cultural Expression and Creativity
We promote cultural expression and creativity as essential to well-being, innovation, and collective liberation.
